More Than a Food Bank: Marine Turbo’s Christmas Giving Supports Local Communities

Outside London, the North West has the highest number of emergency food parcel referrals in the country. Over the past three years, demand on Wirral Foodbank has risen sharply, and last year alone the charity spent £100,000 on additional food to keep pace with need.

But Wirral Foodbank believes emergency food parcels are only part of the answer. In 2020, it launched Foodbank Plus, a service delivered in partnership with Citizens Advice Wirral, to address the underlying issues that drive people to seek support in the first place – including debt, low income, benefit problems, sickness, and housing difficulties.

The results speak for themselves: since 2020, Foodbank Plus has generated £1,086,657.37 in financial outcomes for local people – direct support that has helped families relieve financial pressure, access benefits they’re entitled to, and tackle debt.

None of this would be possible without people. Wirral Foodbank relies on more than 200 volunteers, who give their time generously to support those in need across the community.
